Large-Scale System Configuration with LCFG and SmartFrog

چکیده
This is the third report from the GridWeaver project. It describes how the LCFG and SmartFrog technologies have been combined, in prototype form, to create a largescale configuration system. First, we focus on the configuration aspects that must be modelled and examine how these are represented in the SmartFrog 2 language. Secondly, we discuss how the LCFG and SmartFrog systems have been combined to create a dynamic configuration deployment environment. Revision 1.0 – June 06, 2003

SmartFrog Meets LCFG: Autonomous Reconfiguration with Central Policy Control
Typical large infrastructures are currently configured from the information in a central configuration repository. As infrastructures get larger and more complex, some degree of autonomous reconfiguration is essential, so that certain configuration changes can be made without the overhead of feeding the changes back via the central repository. However, it must be possible to dictate a central p...
متن کاملDesign of Prototype Models for Some Problems Facing Large-Scale Configuration Management
This is the fourth report from the GridWeaver project. It describes a demonstrator that showcases a subset of the concepts explored in the previous report [ABK03a]. The aim of the demonstrator is to illustrate that we can model, configure, and manage a complex, adaptive system, using our prototype LCFG/SmartFrog architecture as the deployment environment. To achieve our goal, we created a proto...
متن کاملThree languages for fabric configuration
The highly automated configuration of large scale computing fabrics increasingly exploits declarative representations of the fabric’s intended state. We examine three languages for expressing these representations: LCFG, Pan and SmartFrog. We give examples of their use and examine which language properties are of particular relevance to the configuration of grid computing fabrics.
متن کاملLarge Scale Linux Configuration with LCFG
This paper describes the automatic installation and configuration system currently being used to manage several hundred Linux machines in the Division of Informatics at Edinburgh University. This is a development of the LCFG system which has been used successfully for several years under Solaris. The introduction provides some background on the general problem of large-scale configuration, toge...
متن کاملLCFG: The Next Generation
LCFG provides a configuration language and a central repository of configuration specifications, from which individual Unix machines can be automatically installed and configured. Changes to the central specification automatically trigger corresponding changes in the actual configuration of individual nodes. The system is particularly suitable for sites where the configurations are very diverse...
